JUJUTSU KAISEN Special Event Previews Upcoming Excitement
by Kalai Chik,

To promote the upcoming US release of the compilation film, JUJUTSU KAISEN: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death, the panelists played a trailer to drum up the energy. After the screams and cheers died down, translator Mikey McNamara joked about the lack of Yuji and Yuta in the trailer. “It's so lonely,” said Enoki. “I know it's lonely, but all the other actors are working hard on this,” added Ogata.
As a special treat for the Peacock Theater, they showed a special prerecorded message from Yūichi Nakamura (voice of Gojo Satoru), Takahiro Sakurai (voice of Suguru Geto), and Aya Endō (voice of Shoko Ieiri). As they greeted the crowd, Sakurai mentioned that he happened to be at Anime Expo last year, but when asked why by Nakamura, Sakurai replied that he “couldn't say why,” likely because it was for a different title. Nakamura has never been to Los Angeles, and teasingly asked Sakurai if famous people can be seen on the streets. “Of course,” replied Sakurai, and Endo added that she'd like to see them.
Moving back to the topic at hand, Nakamura mentioned that the movie is the perfect place to get started with the series. For those who haven't seen JUJUTSU KAISEN at all, it's a great jumping off point. “For the TV series, everyone had to wait a full week,” mentioned Endo. Luckily, viewers won't have to when watching the compilation film. Nakamura closed off the video, voicing his excitement for the movie's release as well as the Culling Game arc.
Turning back to the panelists, the video ended with the voice actors asking the two attending voice actors what they think their respective characters would do if they went to the same school as Gojo and Geto during that period. Ogata replied, “If I were Yuta, I think he'd say, ‘I'm sorry’ a lot and not mingle with the rest. He'd likely be bullied. I can't beat you, sensei.” Enoki thinks Yuji would go to Harajuku with them. “Sushi, sushi!”
Another gift they had for the audience was a special screening of the Juju Stroll/Juju Sanpo snippet from the movie. GKIDS gave the crowd a first look ahead of the July 16th premiere in theaters. Gege Akutami wrote the segment, and MAPPA animated it. As a chibi Toji appeared in an open-air hot spring, cheers erupted in anticipation. The Juju Sanpo features hilarious banter between Gojo, Geto, and Ieiri about needing to go to the restroom during a movie screening. Enokiya reacted, “I guess if you take sodium or salt, you don't have to go to the bathroom during the movies?” The theatrical release will include several special features, such as fifty new illustrations during the ending sequence as well as an acoustic version of “Where Our Blue Is.”

In a turn of events, they showed a behind-the-scenes clip of Enoki during a recording session. There were likely many hopeful fans who thought the panel would show a teaser of the Culling Game arc, but they had to settle for rough storyboards shown in the corner of the recording session. Enoki expertly delivered his lines as Itadori speaking with Choso. “I'm going to go into battle with Choso by my side. It'll be epic,” said Enoki. ”Even we don't get to see the completed form when we're recording.”
”I have to imagine what the completed animation will look like so I can form my performance,” added Ogata.
Then they moved into their impressions when performing the lines right after the Shibuya Incident, going into the Culling Game arc. “One of the biggest changes for Itadori was that, up until that point, he wasn't sure what he was fighting for. After the end of season two, it became clear why he had to put his life on the line.”
In the footage, there's a slight glimpse of Okkotsu. Ogata felt that after JUJUTSU KAISEN 0, Okkotsu was in Kenya, and that's why he's not around. “After coming back from Kenya, there's a big reason he says, 'Yuji, I'll kill you.' That's something to look forward to in the sequel.”
Enoki confirmed that the sequel is in production as he casually mentioned how badly he's (figuratively) getting beaten by Ogata. “I'm getting stabbed over and over by a katana,” laughed Enoki. “The final quality is very high, so there's a lot to look forward to.”
Wrapping up the panel with a giveaway and a commemorative photo, the panel enthusiastically ended on a “Black Flash!”
