KPop Demon Hunters Becomes 1st Netflix Title to Surpass 300 Million Views
posted on by Wonhee Cho
Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans' Sony Pictures Animation film KPop Demon Hunters has become the first title on the Netflix platform to surpass 300 million views, according to Netflix's official site Tudum. As of September 17, the movie recorded 314.2 million views (measured by dividing the 523.6 million total hours viewed by its 100-minute runtime). This is the highest figure ever across all Netflix films and shows.

KPop Demon Hunters had already claimed the global No. 1 spot two weeks ago by pulling ahead of Squid Game season 1, which stands at 265.2 million views. Netflix compiles its “most-watched” list based on cumulative view counts during the first 91 days after release.
KPop Demon Hunters became the first Netflix film to top the U.S. weekend box office after the KPop Demon Hunters Sing-Along Event opened in 1,700 theaters with US$19.2 million at the end of August. That same week, it became Netflix's most streamed film of all time globally with 236,000,000 views (edging out Red Notice's 230,900,000). Also that week, four songs from the film's soundtrack ranked in the top 10 of the weekly Billboard Hot 100 songs chart simultaneously in the United States — a feat no other soundtrack has ever accomplished.
The animated feature has appeared in Netflix's Top 10 for English-language films for 13 consecutive weeks. During the week of September 8–14, it logged 22.6 million views, maintaining the No. 1 position.
The film also reached No. 1 in 39 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, Argentina, Egypt, Malaysia, and Qatar.
