posted on by Joanna Cayanan
Hanashi Media revealed on Saturday that it has licensed Shinogi Kazanami's The New Gate and Kogitsune Kanekiru's Re:Monster light novels. The company will release both digitally on October 30.

Author(s): Shinogi Kazanami (story), Makai no Jūmin (volumes 1-9 illustrator)
Synopsis: In the deepest level of the dungeon known as the Gate of the Otherworld, Shin was locked in battle. His opponent: the final boss of THE NEW GATE, a VRMMO that had transformed into a deadly death game.
After a fierce and grueling fight, Shin emerged victorious, freeing the trapped players from their digital prison. But just as relief washed over him, a mysterious door at the heart of the dungeon suddenly opened-and in the next moment, Shin lost consciousness.
When he came to, what lay before him was the world of THE NEW GATE-not the game, but the real thing.
Kazanami began serializing the original story on the "Shōsetsuka ni Narō" (Let's Become Novelists) website in 2013. AlphaPolis began publishing the story in physical book volumes in December 2013, with art by Makai no Jūmin. In August 2016, Kazanami removed the story from Shōsetsuka ni Narō, and AlphaPolis made the story available on its website.
Yoshiyuki Miwa launched a manga adaptation in November 2014 on AlphaPolis' web manga site. One Peace Books is releasing the manga digitally and physically.
The novels inspired an anime adaptation in April 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired. CTW also announced in April 2024 the anime's browser game adaptation titled THE NEW GATE Best Collection on the G123 service.

Author(s): Kogitsune Kanekiru (story), Yamaada (illustrator)
Synopsis: Stabbed by a stalker and left for dead, Gobrou awoke to find himself reborn as the weakest of creatures-a lowly goblin. But with the mysterious Absorption Skill, a power that lets him grow stronger by consuming what he defeats, he rapidly evolved beyond all reason. In no time, he had clawed his way to the top of the goblin community.
Now, in a brutal otherworld where strength reigns and the weak are devoured, Gobrou begins a savage struggle for dominance. With capable subordinates and loyal allies at his side, his ferocious rise through the ranks is about to begin-a blood-soaked survival saga of rebellion, evolution, and monster mayhem!
Kanekiru initially posted the story on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website. AlphaPolis published the first volume in 2012, and the ninth volume in 2017. AlphaPolis serializes Haruyoshi Kobayakawa's ongoing manga adaptation monthly on its website, and released the 12th compiled book volume in October 2024. Seven Seas publishes the manga adaptation.
The novels' anime adaptation premiered in April 2024. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and also streamed the same-day English dub.
The series also inspired a smartphone game of the same name where players take on the role of a goblin. The game launched on Android and iOS in February 2016.
