The webtoon-based live-action series The Dream Life of Mr. Kim will debut on Netflix on October 25. Netflix began streaming a clip from the series on Thursday.
Based on the best-selling novel by Hee-gu Song and its webtoon adaptation, the series follows a middle-aged man who loses everything he once valued and embarks on a journey to rediscover his true self beyond his title as a corporate manager.
The webtoon, which is drawn by Byūng-gwan Kim and has been serialized since 2023, struck a chord with readers for its grounded and emotionally resonant storytelling, surpassing 10 million views within a month of release.
At the production press conference held in Seoul on October 22, the actor Seung-ryong Ryu, who stars as Mr. Kim, reflected on the changes in the industry, noting, "The pre-production system has improved a lot. We used to shoot all night long, but things are much better now." He added, "Thanks to the 52-hour workweek and ample prep time, we were able to focus on discussions, readings, and on-site adjustments to create a better drama."
The cast also includes Se-bin Myung as Kim's wife Ha-jin Park, and Kang-yoon Cha as his son.
Fans can watch the series on Netflix.
