posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

Bandai Namco Entertainment America announced on Thursday that its TEKKEN World Tour Finals tournament will take place outside of Japan for the first time in the 20+ year franchise history. The tournament will take place at City View at Metreon in San Francisco, California on November 12, and will feature 16 finalists. Twitch will livestream the tournament.

Tekken 7 launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC via Steam on June 2. The game is adding the character Geese Howard from SNK's Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters series to the game this winter. The tournament event on November 12 will have demo stations for the character.

Bandai Namco Entertainment released an arcade update for Tekken 7 titled Tekken 7: Fated Retribution in July 2016 in Japan. The update includes a graphics update as well as a new system, new stages, new costumes, new items, and new characters. Bandai Namco Entertainment added Akuma (Gōki) from CAPCOM's Street Fighter games and Nina Williams as playable characters in the update. Tekken 7: Fated Retribution is the basis for the game's launch on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bandai Namco Entertainment announced a Tekken smartphone game in August.

Disclosure: Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., is a non-controlling, minority shareholder in Anime News Network Inc.
