Hinomaru Sumo TV Anime Listed With 24 Episodes

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

The official website for the television anime of Kawada's Hinomaru Sumo (Hinomaru Zumō) manga revealed on Friday that the anime will have six Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases with four episodes each, for a total of 24 episodes. The first home video release will ship on January 16, and one volume will ship each month through June. The first release will bundle kamizuno, paper figures that can compete in miniature sumo matches.

The anime premiered in Japan on October 5 at 10:00 p.m. on Tokyo MX and AbemaTV. The show is also airing on BS11, Sun TV, TV Aichi, and TVQ Broadcasting Kyushu. Funimation and Crunchyroll are streaming the series as it airs.

Kōnosuke Uda (One Piece, DAYS) is serving as chief director and Yasutaka Yamamoto (Hero Bank, Actually, I Am…) is directing at GONZO. Kii Tanaka (Cheating Craft, Hundred) is designing the characters. NAS is producing.

Kawada launched the manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in May 2014, and Shueisha published the 21st volume on August 3. The story centers on the "small" new student Ushio Hinomaru!, who joins the weak sumo club of Oodachi High School.
