Pikachu's Ikue Ohtani to Voice Cat Anime Poyopoyo

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Shorts based on Rū Tatuki's 4-panel manga about a "spherical cat" premiere in January

The December issue of Takeshobo's Manga Life MOMO magazine announced on Friday that Ikue Ohtani will play the titular cat in the television anime adaptation of Rū Tatuki's four-panel manga Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki. The slice-of-life story centers around a mysterious "spherical cat" named Poyo (Ohtani), its family, and the people in Poyo's everyday life.

Ohtani is a Japanese voice actor known for performing Pikachu in Pokémon and Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece. The female voice actor's other roles include Mitsuhiko Tsuburaya in Case Closed, Fuji in Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time – A Tale of the Eight Guardians, and Sora Hasegawa in Ah! My Goddess.

Akitarō Daichi, director of Fruits Basket, Kodomo no Omocha (Kodocha), Prince Mackaroo, and Now and Then, Here and There, will helm the Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki television anime. The series of six-minute shorts will premiere on the TV Tokyo station at 7:24 a.m. on January 8, 2012.

Tatuki launched the manga in 2004, and the 10th compiled book volume will ship next February.
