Top Five Light Novels Ranked by Title Length

posted on by Bamboo Dong

Light novels have been ranked by plenty of criteria—the popularity of their anime adaptations, their sales figures—but Japanese media website DDNavi has recently updated their ranking for the top five... by title character count.

Here's the list:

(1) ―Time to Play―

Coming in at 54 characters is the latest from Kino's Journey author Keiichi Sigsawa, the title of which roughly translates to, I'm a successful light novel author at a boy's high school, but I'm being strangled by a female classmate who's a voice actress and is younger than me (1) - Time to Play - The title is being published by ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko, which is incidentally the same imprint that handles the works of the fictional protagonist mentioned in the title.

Fun fact, the eighth volume of Kino's Journey was the 1,000th novel published by Dengeki Bunko.

At 41 characters is the latest from Takamaru Semikawa and fzwrAym, a title which translates to, I was reincarnated as an evil god and my subordinate demon army is on the verge of collapsing... What should I do? This title is being published by Alpha Police.

By Tsukimi Sohei and Sakura Neko, this one reads, I tried training a girl who looks exactly like my student body president, hoping to make her my lover, and I turned out to be the servant. It is being published by Ichijinsha.

Also published by Ichijinsha, this title reads, When the female student body president of a prestigious school reads Abdul Alhazred's Necronomicon. This work is written by Hayazuka Katsuya and illustrated by Hiraki Kagen.

This last one seems the simplest title of the bunch, with the title, There was a time where I also thought that girls were nice and cute. The novel is being published by Dengeki Bunko and is written by Shūichi Nimaru with illustrations by Mofu.

Fortunately, the year is still young, which means there is plenty of time for an aspiring author to try and break that record.
