Miyazaki Helps to Create Figure for Upcoming Manga

posted on by Carlos Cadorniga

Hayao Miyazaki, acclaimed Studio Ghibli director now retired, has recently had his hand in releasing a brand new figure model of his newest manga protagonist.

The figure portrays Hiruko Hachirota of Miyazaki's manga, Teppo Samurai. A 1/35 scale figure, shows a stern yet gallant Hachirota ready on the battlefield, his titular gun at the ready. The model comes from an illustration of the scene drawn by Miyazaki himself. The figure is set to be displayed at the 54th Shizuoka Hobby Show on May 16 and 17.

Miyazaki reviewed the figure prototype and asked for some changes, stating that Hachiroka's chest was "too thin" and it originally had a "spineless feeling."

Reportedly, the figure was actually set to be released "some time after the manga began serialization."

Teppo Samurai is an upcoming manga announced in 2014 to be serialized in the magazine Model Graphix. This Sengoku period piece follows the story gun-wielding samurai Hiruko Hachirota. Since the manga was announced, however, it has yet to be released, with Miyazaki even expressing concerns that he might not be able to finish it.
