Idol Group Onsen Musume to Release 1st Album Internationally in Early January

Diversity to include 14 tracks featuring Akatsuki, Izumi Dougo, and more.

Anthropomorphized onsen (hot springs) idol group Onsen Musume announced the worldwide release date of their album Diversity is January 7, 2019. The album is a collection of their concert set list, which is seven songs as well as karaoke versions of each song, and it will be available through popular music providers such as iTunes, Spotify, and Apple Music.

What is impressive is the history of Onsen Musume. The group first started as crowdfunding project to advertise hot springs throughout Japan and culminated into a groundswell of support and allowed the multimedia project to get bigger as time moved on. The original nine-member group called SPRiNGS has expanded to add more idols and represent more individual hot spring locations.

The now multi-dozen-member Onsen Musume group will have not only a full-album release in 2019, but a smartphone game Onsen Musume: Yunohana Collection, and a male counterpart project called “Onsen Ninja” whose site has an excellent theme song. This is on top of many live shows including meet-and-greet events, manga starring the original SPRiNGS group, a drama CD, and various merchandise.

The tracks in the new albumDiversity include the sub-group Akatsuki, characters Izumi Dougo (Minami Shinoda), Yuina Kusatsu (Yūki Takada), Ririn Ohtemachi (Tomori Kusunoki) and OH YOU LADY.

In the project's story, god of hot springs Sukunahiko summons nine girls to fight the decline of interest in hot springs. To fulfill their role, the Hot Spring Girls form the idol group SPRiNGS. The girls serve as guardian deities who are voiced by seiyū and designed individually by different character designers.
