Hanshin Tigers, Toyo Carp Prepare for Gundam Baseball Battle on May 17

Amuro Ray backs Hanshin Tigers, Char Aznable sides with Toyo Carp

It's the Hiroshima Toyo Carp versus the Hanshin Tigers in an all out Gundam-sized baseball sortie! Both professional teams have enlisted Mobile Suits and their pilots to represent them in collaboration merchandise as part of the Mobile Suit Gundam 40th Anniversary Project. The project now spans new anime, a face-off against Hello Kitty, and a series concerts, so why not add a little athletics to the mix?

The Hiroshima Toyo Carp merchandise will be released sequentially beginning on April 26. The collaboration replaces team mascot Carp Boya with Char Aznable drawn in the same style. The team's second mascot Slyly is also shown wearing a RX-78-2 Gundam costume. The merchandise includes keychains, t-shirts, phone cases, magnets, tote bags, towels, and mugs.

The Red Comet has sided with the Toyo Carp while Amuro Ray is supporting the Hanshin Tigers. The teams will face off on Gundam Collaboration Day on May 17. The first 10,000 spectators will receive a clear file with Gundam x Hanshin Tigers promotional artwork. Amuro Ray himself will speak over the stadium's PA system during the game.

Additionally, both a HG 1/144 MS-06S Zaku II and HG 1/144 RX-78-2 figures be released in Hanshin Tiger team colors. Zaku will go on sale on May 17 for 2,778 yen (US$25). The RX-78-2 will be included with ticket sales for the Tigers vs. Giants game in July. The special tickets go on sale on April 25 and are limited to 800 seats.

The team store will also sell collaboration t-shirts, towels, phone cases, and keychains.

The "dark horse" might be the Orix Buffaloes. While not participating in the larger Gundam Collaboration Day, the team is getting its own HG 1/144 RX-78-2 figure Gunpla figure on April 27.
