New Edition of Highschool of the Dead on DVD and Blu-ray June 17 (Updated 2)

posted on by Andrew Osmond
Manga's re-release will include a DVD of the previously-omitted OVA episode.

Manga Entertainment has announced on facebook that it will release a new edition of the fanservice-heavy zombie series Highschool of the Dead on June 17, in both Blu-ray and DVD editions.

Unlike the previous UK edition of the series, both the new Blu-ray and DVD releases will include a 'bonus' DVD disc (not Blu-ray) containing the twenty-minute OVA episode, Highschool of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead. The pack will also include the 12 TV episodes, as well as "an O-card [cardboard cover] and new sexy artwork."

Manga refers to the new edition as the 'Drifters of the Dead' edition, after the name of the OVA episode. The SRP will be confirmed at a later date.

Update - Manga said that the OVA episode will be DVD-only - it will not be available on Blu-ray. In later discussion, Manga commented, 'There doesn't seem much point authoring a separate BD disc just for the 20 min OVA extra.'

In response to another question, Manga said it might 'knock out' a few single-disc editions of the OVA episode for 'Expos and conventions.' Later Manga said it would look into releasing the OVA DVD separately.
