Series is a spinoff of Takashi Miike's upcoming "Yakuza Apocalypse" film

Veteran actor Denden (Maestro!) recorded lines for a series of anime shorts starring himself on Monday. The anime series is a spinoff of the upcoming film Gokudō Daisensō (Yakuza Apocalypse), and will be titled Gokudō Sakaba Denden ~Gokudō Daisensō Gaiden~ (Yakuza Bar-Room Denden ~Yakuza Apocalypse Side-Story~).

As in the film, Denden will play the boss of a bar, but with a snail motif. The actor's stage name, in part, comes from dendenmushi, which means "snail."

This will be the 65-year-old actor's first voice-acting role.

Flash animation studio DLE Inc. (Glass no Kamen Desu ga, Haiyoru! Nyaruani) is handling the animation and GyaO! will handle streaming.

Gokudō Daisensō will open in Japan on June 20. Takashi Miike (Ichi the Killer, Crows Zero) is directing the film.
