Square Enix details game's 3.1 patch

Square Enix announced on Friday that its Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn massive multi-player online role-playing game (MMORPG) has more than 5 million registered accounts worldwide. The number includes registered accounts in Japan, North America, Europe, and China, but does not include free trial accounts.

Additionally, during a livestream event on Saturday to mark the second anniversary of A Realm Reborn, Square Enix revealed details about the game's 3.1 patch. The patch will add new main scenario quests and other quests, new dungeons (Saint Mocianne Aboretum and Pharos Sirius (Hard)), a new Primal Battle, and a new alliance raid dungeon (Void Ark). Players will also be able to earn experience in level 50 dungeons. The Japanese video game news website 4Gamer has a full list in both Japanese and English of the details of the new patch.

Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV Online for personal computers in September 2010. After criticism from fans, the company revealed an updated version of the game titled Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn that adds a new world and story. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn launched on Windows PC and PS3 in August 2013, and then on PS4 in April 2014.

Square Enix released the first expansion for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, titled Heavensward, in June.

As of October 2013, the game had surpassed 1.5 million registered users.
