Female Pop Duo Puffy to Sing New Chibi Maruko-chan Anime's Ending Song

Original creator Momoko Sakura wrote lyrics for song, Tetsuro Oda returns to compose

The official website of the Chibi Maruko-chan anime revealed on Tuesday that pop duo Puffy (PuffyAmiYumi) will perform the anime's new ending theme song "Susume Nonsense" (Advance! Nonsense). The new theme song will debut in the show in the new episode on Sunday. Anime versions of the duo's two members will appear in the ending sequence, as shown in the preview screenshots below.

Momoko Sakura, the original manga creator, wrote the lyrics for the new song. This is the first Chibi Maruko-chan song she has written the lyrics for since the first anime's first opening and ending songs "Odoru Ponpokorin" and "Hashire Shoujiki-mono." Tetsuro Oda, the composer of "Odoru Ponpokorin," also composed the new song.

The Chibi Maruko-chan television anime is consistently the #2 rated anime series after Sazae-san. The first anime series ran from 1990 to 1992, and the ongoing second series premiered in 1995. The 1,000th television anime episode aired in 2012, and the show now has more than 1,100 episodes. The series celebrated its 25th anniversary last year.
