A live-action film of Jun Mayuzuki's Koi wa Ameagari no You ni (Love is Like After the Rain) manga has been green-lit for next May. Nana Komatsu (left in picture below) is playing Akira Tachibana, while Yō Ōizumi (right) is playing Masami Kondō. Akira Nagai (live-action Teiichi no Kuni) is directing the film, with a script by Riko Sakaguchi (The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, Mary and The Witch's Flower).
The manga centers on 17-year-old high school student Akira Tachibana, a girl who barely expresses herself. She harbors a secret crush on Masami Kondō, the 45-year-old manager of the family restaurant she works at part-time.
Mayuzuki launched the manga in Shogakukan's Monthly Big Comic Spirits in 2014, before it transferred to Weekly Big Comic Spirits in early 2016, where it serializes a new chapter every other week. Shogakukan published the manga's ninth volume on November 10. The manga has 1.75 million copies in print.
The manga was nominated for the ninth Manga Taisho awards in 2016, and was ranked #4 in the 2016 edition of Takarajimasha's Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (This Manga Is Amazing!) guidebook.
The manga is also inspiring a television anime adaptation by Wit Studio. The anime will premiere in January 2018 in the Noitamina programing block on Fuji TV and other channels. The show will stream exclusively on Amazon Prime Video inside and outside of Japan.
