Film opens in Japan next year

The official website for the anime adaptations of Natsume Akatsuki's KONOSUBA (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! or KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!!) light novel series began streaming a teaser trailer for the Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! Kurenai Densetsu (KonoSuba – God’s blessing on this wonderful world!! Crimson Legend) anime film on Tuesday.

The film will open in Japan in 2019.

Takaomi Kanasaki is returning from the previous two anime seasons to direct the film at J.C. Staff (Studio DEEN animated the two TV anime series). Makoto Uezu is returning to write the scripts, Koichi Kikuta is returning to adapt Kurone Mishima's original character designs for animation, and Masato Kōda is returning to compose the music.

The returning cast includes:

The original light novels center on Kazuma, a shut-in student who dies in a traffic accident, but meets the goddess Aqua after death. He is given the chance to reincarnate in a fantasy world and can keep one thing with him. When he decides to choose Aqua herself, they are both transported to their new lives. The pair go on quests to earn just enough to buy food, shelter, and clothing, and eventually hire the sorceress Megumin and swordswoman Darkness, who they quickly learn are just as useless as they are.

The novels inspired two television anime seasons. The first season premiered in January 2016, and the second season premiered in January 2017. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired in Japan.

Yen Press is releasing the original light novels and Masahito Watari's manga adaptation in English. The company has also licensed the Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spinoff novel series.

The novels are also inspiring a dungeon role-playing game for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4. The main characters will also appear in the Isekai Quartet crossover anime next spring.
