posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

Tokuma Shoten revealed on Friday that Kei Ohkubo's Arte manga is inspiring a television anime adaptation. Mikako Komatsu stars as the titular protagonist and aspiring painter Arte, and Katsuyuki Konishi plays Leo, the painter who takes in Arte as his apprentice.

Ohkubo drew an illustration to celebrate the announcement.

Media Do offers the manga digitally in English, and it describes the story:

16th century Firenze, Italy. One girl, One ARTistic ambition! The birthplace of the renaissance era, where art is thriving. In one small corner of this vast city, one sheltered girl's journey begins. She dreams of becoming an artist, an impossible career for a girl born into a noble family. In those days, art was an exclusively male profession, with woman facing strong discrimination. In spite of these challenges, Arte perseveres with hard work and a positive attitude!

Ohkubo launched the manga in Monthly Comic Zenon in 2013, and Tokuma Shoten will publish the manga's 11th compiled book volume on Saturday. Media Do published the third volume digitally in English last December.

North Stars Pictures and Tokuma Shoten have digitally published 17 chapters of the manga in English in its Silent Manga Audition web manga magazine.
