Muse Asia announced on Facebook on Wednesday that it will stream the television anime of Tatsuya Endō's SPY×FAMILY manga on YouTube on April 9. The channel will stream the anime in India alongside its Japanese debut.
Muse Asia will also stream the anime in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), Singapore, and Thailand. Netflix will also stream the anime in India as it airs in Japan.
Muse Asia describes the anime:
In an era in which the nations of the world were waging a fierce war of information, Ostania and Westalis had been in a cold war state for decades.
Twilight is one of the best spies from Westalis and he has been charged with the top-secret mission to keep his eye on Desmond, a key figure from Ostania who is threatening the peace between the East and the West.
His mission is to "Establish a family and infiltrate the social circle at the prestigious school his target's son attends."
However, the daughter Twilight meets is a telepath who can read people's minds and his wife is an assassin! The peace of the world rests in the hands of a family of three hiding their true identities from each other.
The anime will premiere on the TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, TV Aichi, TV Setouchi, TV Hokkaido, and TVQ Kyuushuu channels on April 9 at 11:00 p.m. (10:00 a.m. EDT), and it will also run on Niigata TV 21, TV Shizuoka, RCC Chugoku Broadcasting, and BS TV Tokyo. The anime will run for two separate cours (quarters of a year).
Kazuhiro Furuhashi (Mobile Suit Gundam UC, Rurouni Kenshin, Getbackers, 2019 Dororo) is directing the anime at Wit Studio and CloverWorks. Kazuaki Shimada (The Promised Neverland) is designing the characters, and [K]NoW_NAME (Fairy gone, Dorohedoro, Sakura Quest) is the music producer.
Shueisha is offering the manga in English on its MANGA Plus service. Viz Media added the manga to its app as part of its Shonen Jump subscription in September 2019. The company is also publishing the manga in print.
Shueisha published the manga's ninth compiled volume on April 4.
The manga won first place in the web manga category of Kadokawa's Da Vinci magazine and streaming service Niconico's Tsugi ni Kuru Manga Awards in August 2019. The manga ranked at #2 on the comic rankings for Da Vinci's 20th annual "Book of the Year" list in December 2021. The manga was also nominated for the 14th Manga Taisho awards and the Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards' Best U.S. Edition of International Material—Asia category last year.
