Slushii Launches Original Sci-Fi Webtoon Sapient Dream on WEBTOON in July

WEBTOON Entertainment and SONICdream, the creative label founded by DJ and producer Slushii, have announced Sapient Dream, an original shonen action webtoon set to debut exclusively on WEBTOON's English-language platform on July 6. The series marks the first collaboration between Slushii (Julian Scanlan) and anime producer Rob Pereyda, with production by Merryweather Media.
Sapient Dream will blend music and manga into a sci-fi coming-of-age adventure. The series will feature immersive music overlays tied to Slushii's upcoming album Chrysalis.
The story follows Kuro, a high school student haunted by strange dreams who finds himself protecting an alien sludge creature and awakening mysterious powers. As Kuro becomes entangled in a battle that spans galaxies, he must unravel the connection between his dreams and the fate of the universe.
"Sapient Dream is a universe I've been 'dreaming' up for years," said Slushii. "It's anime, it's music — it's everything that makes me who I am."
Slushii's viral song "Past Lives" has more than 16 billion combined streams on YouTube and TikTok.
To celebrate the launch, Slushii and WEBTOON will host a joint panel at Anime Expo 2025, along with a DJ set and fan meet and greet:
- Panel: WEBTOON & SONICdream Present: Sapient Dream – Saturday, July 5, 3:45–4:35 p.m. PDT (Room 511ABC)
- Concert: Slushii: Operation Overload DJ Set – Saturday, July 5, 12:30–1:45 a.m. PDT
- Meet & Greet: Sunday, July 6, 1:00–2:00 p.m. PDT at the WEBTOON Booth (E-90, Entertainment Hall)
