Manga creator Sui Kasai died on September 12. Kasai's relatives announced the passing on the creator's X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, and noted that they had already held funeral services. Kasai is survived by fellow manga creator and wife Ao Ogino.

Kasai is perhaps best known for the now-unfinished Gisèle Alain manga series. Set in early 20th-century France, the manga centers on the titular Gisèle, a young teenager who runs an apartment building and solves problems.

Kasai launched the Gisèle Alain manga in Kadokawa's Fellows! (later Harta) magazine in 2009. The manga went on hiatus in 2014 due to Kasai's poor health, and never resumed. The manga's fifth (and now final) volume debuted in 2015. Kasai was nearing the completion on a Gisèle Alain side story, and  Harta editors report that they plan to present the side story in some format to Kasai's fans.

Kasai also drew the Tsukiyo no Toratsugumi anthology of short manga stories, which Kadokawa published in 2011.

Kasai also drew a number of one-shots that have appeared in various issues of Harta, some of which appear in anthology collections featuring various authors. Other collections of Kasai's one-shot manga stories include Tsukiyo no Toratsugami, which Kadokawa collected in a volume in 2011. The Story of Carocheila short manga ran in Harta in 2018, and Kadokawa collected the story in two volumes in the same year.
