The Korean-animated film Bad Girl: Run Hani is set to open nationwide in Korea on October 7.
The film is based on the late Jin-joo Lee's original comic, first serialized in Treasure Island magazine in 1985 and later adapted into a hit television animation in 1988. To mark the 40th anniversary of its serialization, the new theatrical version updates the setting to modern-day Seoul and shifts the perspective to Hani's former rival, Ae-ri Na, who grows from antagonist to trusted teammate.
The new version of the sports story also introduces “S-Run,” a high-speed urban running sport that utilizes city landscapes as racecourses, adding a fresh sense of thrill and competition. Beloved characters from the original series—including Hani, Coach Hong, and Chang-soo—return, alongside a reprise of the iconic theme song that became a cultural touchstone in the 1980s.
The film, directed by Jung-soo Heo and produced by PlayKhan, aims to blend nostalgia with dynamic visual storytelling, appealing to both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers.
