Q Hayashida's Dai Dark Manga Goes on 2-Issue Hiatus

Hayashida to work on manga's compiled book volume; manga returns in October

Dai Dark manga volume one cover
The August issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine announced on Friday that Q Hayashida's Dai Dark manga will go on a two-issue hiatus for Hayashida to work on the manga's compiled book volume. The manga will return in the magazine's November issue in October.

Seven Seas Entertainment publishes the manga in English and describes the story:

Zaha Sanko's body has great and terrible powers–they say that possessing his bones will grant you any wish, even the desire to become ruler of the universe. But Sanko is still a teenage dude with his own life, and he isn't about to let every monstrous lowlife in the galaxy rip him limb from limb. He and his skeletal buddy Avakian will use their dark powers to fend off any murder attempts while they search space for whomever put this curse on Sanko's bones…because killing them might end the madness. (And then Sanko can celebrate with his favorite spaghetti.)

Hayashida launched the manga in Monthly Shonen Sunday in March 2019. Shogakukan published the manga's first volume in November 2019, and the eighth volume in October 2024.

Hayashida launched the science-fiction manga Dorohedoro in Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki magazine in 1999. When Monthly Ikki ended serialization in 2014, the manga moved to its replacement magazine Hibana, and then to Monthly Shonen Sunday when Hibana ceased publication in 2017. The manga ended in September 2018. The manga's 23rd and final compiled book volume shipped in November 2018. The manga inspired a television anime adaptation in 2020.

Viz Media began distributing the manga digitally when it launched SigIKKI, its online English version of Shogakukan's Monthly Ikki seinen manga magazine, in 2009. The North American manga distributor then began releasing the title in printed book form in 2010, and the 23rd volume shipped in 2019.
