ADV Announces May 17 Releases

ADV ANNOUNCES MAY 17 RELEASES

HOUSTON, April 20, 2005—ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, is pleased to announce three exciting titles and a brand new collectors box hitting store shelves May 17: Sister Princess 5, the Asian live action thriller No Blood No Tears, and the smash-hit Get Backers 6 (also available in a special Collectors Edition).

GET BACKERS: BACK IN BUSINESS

6th Volume Also Available With Artbox Celebrating Second Half of the Series

The fan-favorite anime series passes its midway point when Get Backers: Back In Business hits retailers May 17. And to celebrate, ADV Films is making a brand new Collectors Box available!

Combining goofy good humor with crisp dialogue and supernatural action, Get Backers is based on the original manga series by Rando Ayamine and Yuya Aoki, which was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump and is now a top-selling manga in the States from Tokyopop. Get Backers follows the adventures of two resourceful knuckleheads who will dodge bullets, confront evil doers, and risk their lives for their clients. Their company motto: “If it was taken, get it back.”

Animated by Studio DEEN (King of Bandit Jing), the Get Backers anime has picked up steam with American fans. As one reviewer at Anime News Network recently explained, the series develops over time: “Get Backers has really transformed from a fairly pleasurable show to something a lot darker, a lot more complex, and a lot more intriguing. At this point, it's hard not to clamour eagerly for the next disc. Take a chance and reach for this series.”

Synopsis: After hunting down a boy genius bent on destroying the world, the Get Backers deserve a few simple, in-and-out recovery jobs, right? But with Ban and Ginji doing the recovering, “easy money” is anything but! First stop: a hot springs vacation. But between a jewelry thief and Natsumi's demonic Ping Pong playing, this vacation looks more like a study in stress. Then it's off to find a stolen briefcase with the help of a cute little high school girl…from hell! Assuming Ban and Ginji can survive her brutal put-downs, their next recovery request will be even trickier: get back a man's memory! Finally, Clayman returns and sends them on a quest for the lost arms of the Venus de Milo.

Can Ban and Ginji get it all back? Will they go crazy in the process? And will they ever manage to make a buck?!

Get Backers: Back In Business (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including episodes 26 through 30 of the series, presented in both English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. Extras include Behind the Scenes interviews with Travis Dean (Ryuu), Ben Wolfe (Shakuryuu), and Jenny Larson, plus clean opening animation, clean closing animation, and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.

New Collectors Edition Available!

Get Backers: Back In Business is also available in a special Collectors Edition, including the first sixth volume of Get Backers plus a stunning custom series art box with full color artwork sized to hold the last five volumes in the ten volume series (SRP $39.98).

NO BLOOD, NO TEARS

Asian Action Thriller Barks With Excitement

ADV Films is proud to announce that No Blood, No Tears, a razor-sharp crime drama and one of Korea's top-grossing pictures, will finally be available to American audiences when the DVD hits stores May 17.

This high-stakes heist thriller, which follows two women determined to rip off an underground dogfight, is from acclaimed director Ryu Seung Wan and features a cast of Korea's most popular action stars, including Jeong Jae Yeong (Guns and Talk). The Tarantino-like action is accented by the most viscious dog fighting scenes ever captured on film.

Synopsis: Gyungsun is a washed out taxi-driver dragged down by the gambling debts of her deadbeat husband. When her taxi is wrecked by gangster moll Sujin, the two women conspire to get out of their dead-end rackets once and for all. Sujin's notorious boyfriend, however, has double-crossing plans of his own! They all have pasts: ex-thief, ex-ring girl, ex-boxer. They all have dreams: going straight, becoming a pop star, money and power. But for this trio, reconciling the past with the present in the hopes of a new future is going to take more than hard work and ingenuity.
