Anime Boston 2020 Announces its First Japanese Guest

Japanese rock band GIRLFRIEND to appear at the
Northeast's largest anime convention


Boston - Anime Boston, the largest anime convention in New England, announced its first Japanese guest today. Japanese rock band GIRLFRIEND will be appearing at Anime Boston at the Hynes Convention Center, Boston, Mass, on April 10 through 12, 2020.

GIRLFRIEND is a Japanese rock band made up of members MIREI on vocal & drums, SAKIKA on vocal & guitar, MINA on vocal & bass, and NAGISA on vocal & guitar.

GIRLFRIEND was trained from the same school in Osaka which produced Scandal and SHOTA SHIMIZU. They debuted in 2015 with their first mini album Hello. This was followed by the group's major debut in November 2016 with their first single “15/Hide & Seek.”

GIRLFRIEND went onto produce “Mirailist” for the popular mobile app game Tales of the Rays: Mirage Prison released in February 2018. GIRLFRIEND's first international live performance was at the Asia GAME Festival 2018, performing in front of 50,000 attendees. In 2019 GIRLFRIEND produced the opening for Black Clover with the song “sky & blue.”

“It's very exciting to have GIRLFRIEND appearing at Anime Boston,” said Kristen Leiding, Convention Chair. “Their energy and enthusiasm comes through in their music, and I can't wait to see them perform live.”

They will be going on their first world tour in 2020 with stops in Asia, America, South America and Europe! GIRLFRIEND is excited to perform and meet all their global fans.
