I take it from the reading that unfortunately it is a terminal diagnosis.

Hopefully he'll still live for a few more years despite the cancer.

Quote:
He won the Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Grammy Award for The Last Emperor film in 1988. Sakamoto composed the soundtracks of The Wings of Honneamise, the Appleseed anime movies, and Le Chevalier D'Eon.

It was Michiru Oshima who composed the soundtrack for Le Chevalier D'Eon. The Ryuichi Sakamoto who worked on the show is a CG animator who also does digital compositing.

Don't forget he had done the score for The Revenant, I think prior to that he hadn't done any film scores for movies outside of Japan in decades.

He's done a few non-Japanese projects since 2000. He's done South Korean, Iranian, Indian and a couple of multinational projects as well as Japanese projects. I just found out he did an episode in series 5 of Black Mirror.

I hope he recovers, I was lucky enough to see him as part of his trio in 2011 in London and I hope he can do more shows and albums/soundtracks in the future.

He's been unlucky to suffer two types of cancer? God bless his soul. I'm not familiar at all with his work, but I wish him a long life still.

Ryuichi Sakamoto was a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra famous for songs like Technopolis (official PV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2lOyCxRp5s ) and Rydeen.

Rydeen was covered in Sound! Euphonium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5jyEphbGo4
