posted on by Anita Tai, Crystalyn Hodgkins
Nintendo released a new video on Wednesday to explain the benefits Nintendo Switch Online and "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" paid members have, including new benefits with the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. Those who have a membership on the Switch will be able to carry over that membership to the Switch 2.
Those who have the "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" membership will get access to upgrade packs for the Nintendo Switch 2 versions of games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. These members will also have access to DLC for select games for free.
Other benefits for the Switch 2 only include using the new GameChat feature using the Switch 2 controllers. Those who have a "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" membership will also have access to GameCube games in addition to Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis games.
The overall membership regardless of membership type or system includes online playability, access to classic Nintendo games, access to member-only games, access to Nintendo Music, and ability to cloud-save data.
The Switch Online service released in September 2018. Nintendo launched the "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" paid membership service in October 2021. The membership allows access to classic games from the Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and Sega Genesis game library.
Nintendo formally unveiled its Switch 2 system on January 16. The console will launch in many countries including the United States and Japan on June 5. Nintendo predicts it will sell 15 million of the consoles by the end of the fiscal year on March 31, 2026.
