Bkub Okawa: Cannot explain switch to updating on 15th of the month

Manga creator Bkub Okawa: posted on Friday that he will no longer update his Pop Team Epic manga with new content daily, starting in June. Instead, he will next update on the 15th of the month. He added that he is sorry that he cannot explain why he will switch to a new schedule. (The drawing accompanying the announcement shows the character Popuko in a stroller and Pipimi carrying a Nintendo Switch 2 game system, which will launch on June 5.)

Okawa launched the Pop Team Epic comedy manga on Takeshobo's Manga Life Win website in 2014 and ended its first run in 2015. Ōkawa launched "season 2" of the manga in February 2016 and ended it in April 2017. The manga started a season 3 in October 2017 and ended in January 2019. The series then continued with a season 4 that also ended in January 2019.

Okawa launched a "new series" titled Poputan on Manga Life Win in October 2019, only to retroactively reveal that it is actually Pop Team Epic's season 5. He would employ similar naming jokes for later seasons. Takeshobo published the compiled book volume for the manga's "season 7" on July 14, 2023.

The manga's "season 8" started on September 1, 2023, but Okawa then put it on hiatus in the following month. Okawa explained the hiatus was due to him not feeling well. Okawa launched the current "season 9" on April 1, 2025.

The manga's television anime series premiered in January 2018. HIDIVE, Funimation, Crunchyroll, AsianCrush, and Amazon Prime Video all streamed the anime as it aired in Japan. Adult Swim's Toonami block began airing the anime in June 2018. The anime's second series premiered in October 2022.

Okawa most recently launched the Chinchilland manga in Kadokawa's Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine on September 27.
