I'm excited but at the same time scared, because the cast isn't caucasian...

Pffft!

Does anybody know who's voicing Al? Every time there's news about this movie on ANN, I hope Al's voice announcement sneaks in there somehow. Or maybe we're all in the dark. Or maybe Kugimiya Rie will be the only one showing up for that event as Al. That could be a clue!

While the CGI looks great I wonder if there wasn't enough budget to simply create a suit of armour. Surely it couldn't be that expensive. It doesn't have to be full metal either (pardon the pun).

Al's armor looks better now than in the trailer (but maybe that's because I'm seeing a still of it), but it still looks rather fake. There's something I can't put my finger on when a Japanese film studio attempts lifelike CGI that Hollywood CGI people can get pretty well nowadays. I remember seeing the trailer and noticing Al's armor's lighting did not match his surroundings (but he's mo-capped, so I can't complain about unrealistic movements), but there's something else too. Maybe it's because it looks TOO much like the source material that I can't mentally disassociate it from when it was hand-drawn.

This is true. American live-action/computer-animated films could definite work with titles like this and AoT. Since both franchises do have Asian characters or Asian-equivalent characters, there is room for Asians or Asian-American talent.
