Not that often you see something related to "World Masterpiece Theater" in a manga. The main reason I would the classic book is because the dog in the story is a Saint Bernard, which is a Mastiff-type breed (my favorite type of dog).

heidi gets referenced a lot in anime, tho I have to say (besides little women), that's the only world master iece that gets constantly referenced.

Though it is not part of the WMT library, "Alice in Wonderland" is also a favorite Western novel to be referenced in anime/manga.
