Macross 7 hasn't been reviled for a very long time now. There are those that dislike, but these days there are plenty that feel the exact opposite, in fact im sure that Macross Zero and Macross II rank far behind Macross 7 in terms of popularity.

It's found its audience, some Macross fans adore 7 now. Maybe Basara was just too charismatic for 1994, too ahead of his time.

I've always felt that many Macross fans initial exposure to non-Roboteceh Macross for many years being Macross Plus set a level of expectation that M7 could not hope to meet and created a false expectation as well that all Macross was to be like Macross Plus, i.e. Serious Business.

As Basara said: "Stop fighting and listen to my song!".

So what's the odds they are gonna use some of the new songs from Re: Fire are gonna be used for this or are they gonna go back to the old standards from the series proper?

Personally, even back in the day I much preferred 7 to Plus, and I think most people agreed it was much better than Macross II. At least, most of the guys I knew back in the mid 90s preferred M7 (I know, not exactly a representative sample since they were my friends and all).

Macross Plus had nice music, but the storyline wasn't interesting and characters weren't very likable. Most of the guys I knew who loved Plus really were only into Sharon Apple (the original vocaloid), not so much Macross Plus itself.

And as much as I love the Macross Plus soundtracks, I find myself singing along to Macross 7 songs a lot more frequently. There's something really catchy about M7's music. I'd be really interested in this new film if they somehow could get the M7 cast involved to record new lines, but it sounds like they're just going to be some kind of alien flashback sequence anyway.

Using edited footage from a show that was never particularly well-animated to begin with (actually about half the battles were recycled footage..lol) for a theatrical movie just seems like a bad idea.

I love M7 but if you're going to make a new movie, ANIMATE IT.

The Zeta Gundam movies ended up being so hard to watch because the constant switch between the rough old animation and clean new animation was so jarring.

At least the Frontier footage will be new...

1. Yes, I am one of those who hate Macross 7, but can live with it.
2. Again with the idol crapolla. I and at least two die-hard Macross fans sick and tired the used up idol angle. What we want, its a "normal" Macross story about some sort of stationed unit at colony either army or SMS that fights off the threats to the settlement.
3. Ok, fine, it's the Shoji's thing whatever he wishes, he can do, just curios what happen to Max and Millia in 2059? Maybe he finally became an admiral, the Macross 7 finally found a settlement world. During the Civil War(?) (for those who unaware, as rumor goes, not sure how true, there was supposedly a civil war(?) of autonomy between old UN Spacy and new NUNS) on who's side the fleet fought, if at all.

As a tolerater of M7's existence, Basara was NOT charismatic AT ALL, which is one of the things that made him so annoying! The fact that a non-evolving character was made a principle and not a supporting character wasn't avante guarde or brave, but the result of a basic lack of understanding of a story's sturcture, design and purpose.

The civil war was featured in VF-X2 but never directly referenced in Macross Frontier. The reason given for the NUNS was that the UNG had become more of a federation of autonomous member states as opposed to the governing body it once was. Whether the change was from a civil war or political maneuvering is left vague AFAIK. This had evolved to the point where each Emigration fleet was considered a "free nation" unto itself, but tethered by choice the the UNG Federation.

Well, at least they didn't feel like Scooby Doo rejects.

I imagine the only reason they're doing that is that Daibuster thing made money?
