Golden Bomber Band Makes Appearance in Chibi Maruko-chan Special
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Visual kei rock band Golden Bomber will appear as guests in the Chibi Maruko-chan 1-Hour 30th Anniversary Special on March 19. The four members will voice a father, grandfather, mother, and grandmother that visits the Sakura household at the beginning of the program. Kenji Darvish is voicing the grandmother who appears wearing his trademark face makeup.
Golden Bomber currently perform the series' opening theme and appear as themselves in the corresponding animation sequence. The band had long expected that they would be invited to appear in the show itself; Yutaka Kyan claims he was about to call Fuji TV in protest. The band members swear they have great respect for the show (even if they didn't read the scripts until now); Kyan says he's worried that their performance will "sully" the anime, while Darvish claims that everyone "shrank" during recording and spoke quietly. The band also worried that kids watching the show might be upset by their performances or by the grandma's makeup. The mom also has a "punk" look, with two-toned hair, but her voice actress, Jun Utahiroba, says the band was told to put themselves into the characters.
Original manga author Momoko Sakura wrote the script for the episode.
Band member Yutaka Kyan is set to star in a stage play adaptation of Rumiko Takahashi's Inuyasha manga as Inuyasha.
