Maya Okamoto Sings Theme Song for Fictitious '90s Anime

posted on by Eric Stimson
"ZANAM, Femme Fatale of Destiny"

Voice actress Maya Okamoto had many roles in the 1990s, like Orihime in Sakura Wars, Harumi in The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Ono in Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikouen-mae Hashutsujo, and Minato in Martian Successor Nadesico. Since then she has provided voices for dubs of Hollywood movies, but roles in anime have been hard for her to come by. She's found a novel solution for that problem: singing a theme song for a classic '90s anime that never actually existed.

The anime is called Raijin Hakkei -ZANAM- Femme Fatale Unmei no Onna, or "Thunder God Series 8 -ZANAM- Femme Fatale of Destiny." Okamoto will also be singing an insert song for it. Neither song yet has a title. One song will be written by Okamoto and the other by RUCCA; Kei Katō will compose both songs.

The idea grew out of a discussion with her manager that gradually expanded. The jacket art for the CD (her first since Pure in 1998) will be drawn by longtime collaborator and fellow '90s throwback Kia Asamiya (Silent Mobius, Nadesico, key animation for Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam), who says that "When Maya Okamoto wants something, you can't escape it, no matter what your excuse. I agreed half a second after hearing about it."
