Ensemble Stars! and Idol Memories smartphone game developer Happy Elements is developing the new two-dimensional female idol project "Chikyū Bōei Idol Project" (Earth Defense Idol Project). Although Happy Elements has yet to announce details of the project, the company began accepting applications on Tuesday for female voice-acting idols who want to participate.
The new type of idol project is targeting audiences in China, Japan, and Greater China. Happy Elements is planning anime, music, and live events related to the project. Amuse, a Japanese entertainment company active in Greater China and Asia, is collaborating on the project. The company will help train idols and act as a producer for them. Successful applicants will have acting, dance, and singing lessons. The real-world idols will be trained alongside the development of the project's characters. Then the project will launch in China, Japan, and other territories in Greater China.
The project is accepting applications until June 11. The application and audition process is open to young women from 15 to 30 years old. People of any nationality can apply, but they must be proficient in Chinese. Applicants also must be able to live in and participate in lessons in Japan. Applications are limited to people who do not have existing contracts with talent agencies or record companies.
Applicants who pass the first wave of the application process will appear in Tokyo on June 24 for an interview, as well as drama and singing auditions. The final part of the selection process will be held in Tokyo on June 25 with interview, drama, dance, and singing portions.
New and ongoing idol projects in Japan and throughout Asia often hold auditions for new members. The idol unit AŌP held auditions for anime fans to become new members earlier this year.
