Laid-Back Camp Staff Went Location Scouting, Winter Camping

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

A recent interview with Laid-Back Camp producer Kaoru Wada on Mainichi Shimbun's Mantan Web site revealed that staff went on a winter camping trek to make sure the series maintained a high level of authenticity.

The series director Yoshiaki Kyougoku and production staff scouted out 10 different locations that the series' characters visit. A model camp site was also set up during the winter and the staff huddled up together to enjoy the same experiences as Rin and Nadeshiko. Staff tried their hand at making rice at the camp site and snoozing in sleeping bags in the dead of winter. Wada added that the staff's experiences can be felt while watching the anime series.

Wada also said that it brings him joy that the series is inspiring others to want to go camping. Yamanishi Broadcasting System's YBS Wide News program recently aired a feature on the Laid-Back Camp anime. According to the program, the anime has led some fans to try winter camping near Mount Fuji. Specifically, campers at the Kouan campgrounds on Lake Motosu told the program that the anime inspired them to brave the winter cold and get a new camping experience. A view of Mount Fuji from Lake Motosu appears in the anime's first episode.

The official website for Yamanashi Prefecture's Yamanashi Tourism Organization also features a section devoted to the anime and its real-world locations. City employees in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, which is another camping area near Mount Fuji, recreated the anime's key visual last month.

The camping television anime series premiered on January 4, and Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs.
