Sanrio Somehow Makes Re:Zero's Betelgeuse Cute

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Sanrio's collaboration with Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- continues with chibi characters of the main cast and one of the anime series' central villains, Betelgeuse Romanee-Conti (sometimes also romanized as Petelgeuse). Sanrio's design is far cuter than the crazed Betelgeuse that Subaru faces in the show but still retains some of his obvious character tics.

Even his Unseen Hand ability is adorable. Fans will have to wait and see how Sanrio uses the designs but a variety of products are in the works.

The 25-episode Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- anime adaptation premiered in April 2016. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The first OVA episode in the franchise, Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Memory Snow (pictured at right), opened in Japanese theaters on October 6 and a second OVA titled "Hyōketsu no Kizuna" (Frozen Bonds) is in the works.
