Dropkick on My Devil! Raises Support for Voice Actress' Hometown

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

The characters from Yukiwo's Dropkick on My Devil! (Jashin-chan Dropkick) are helping lead voice actress Aina Suzuk's hometown of Chitose in Hokkaido. Yukiwo provided illustrations for the collaboration, including Jashin-chan reimagined as a mermaid instead of a lamia.

Jashin-chan's fishy tail is taken from the city's local fish, the chippu, a landlocked variety of sockeye salmon. Chitose's kokanee can be found in Lake Shikotsu. Lake Shikotsu is notable in itself for holding Japan's best quality water for 11 consecutive years.

Posters of Jashin-chan with the chippu fish will be displayed in areas around Chitose. The limited edition goods of Chippu Jashin and Yurine wielding a traditional Ainu fishing tool will go on sale in Chitose only beginning on August 1.

The original comedy manga by Yukiwo centers on Yurine Hanazono, a college student who summons Jashin-chan, a demon from the underworld. Now they must live together in a run-down apartment in Tokyo's Jinbōchō district. If Yurine dies, Jashin-chan gets to go back to the underworld, so she constantly plots to kill Yurine.

The first anime season premiered in July 2018. The anime is streaming exclusively on Amazon Prime Video inside and outside of Japan. The anime's second season is planned to premiere in 2020.

Yukiwo launched the manga in Flex Comix's web magazine Comic Meteor in April 2012, and the series is ongoing.
