Anime in Mexico details

More details on Anime south of the Border

Reader Victor Fuentes has written to ANN, expanding on the subject of how Anime is faring in Mexico.

We used to have alot of anime airing on TV here, but due to radical religious groups, most of this anime has been removed. And some other times they've been removed due to poor scheduling, since TV stations want to have steady ratings of over 15 points all the time wich isn't posible. But, cable channels are gaining what public TV is denying the fans, and especially one channel in particular named Locomotion.

Here's what is airing on Mexican TV:

Public TV: Pokémon and Digimon on Channel 2 Televisa, Kaitō Saint Tail Channel 7 TV Azteca.

Locomotion has become some sort of "alternative" channel, airing shows that are no longer just meant for small children, and, during prime time they air such series as Those Who Hunt Elves, Saber Marionette J to X, Soul Hunter, Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 and lots of other shows, airing also a lot of anime movies on Saturdays.

Cartoon Network Latin America is airing the japanese version of Cardcaptor Sakura and Pokémon.

Fox Kids is airing Digimon Adventure (Japanese version), Patlabor, Dinozaurs and will soon start with Digimon Adventure 02.

Lots of dubbing studios are still working on anime, but, since the Public Tv veto, they'll probably end up on cable channels if ever.
