Agent Helps Global Artists Break into Japan's Market

posted on by Egan Loo

The Publishers Weekly trade magazine has posted its interview with Yukari Shiina, a literary agent who brings international artists into the manga publishing industry in Japan. Shiina translated American comics, including Fred Gallagher's Megatokyo, for Japanese release and co-judged Kodansha's Morning International Manga Competition. She has since helped bring Pipochū, an upcoming manga by Felipe Smith (MBQ), to Kodansha's Morning 2 magazine this month. In the interview, Shiina described the mission of her World Manga agency and the state of the manga industry for international artists. She also explained what her agency does for artists and how artists can contact it.
