Kage no Matsuri by rem to adorn cover of Japan's Morning 2 magazine

Tokyopop revealed in its creator profile for the Vampire Kisses: Blood Relatives release that the artist rem won the first Morning International Manga Competition with her Kage no Matsuri work. The artist confirmed her grand prize win on her own personal blog and showed the flyer that the publisher Kodansha distributed at Comic-Con International 2007 about the second competition. Kodansha had planned on announcing the winner later in August on its website.

Kodansha's flyer says that Kage no Matsuri will not only be the opening manga title on the first pages of issue 6 (on sale in mid-October) of Morning 2 magazine, but it will also adorn the cover. Kage no Matsuri is an online comic created by rem, who was one of the winners of Tokyopop's first Rising Stars of Manga contest in 2003. As the grand prize winner of the first Morning International Manga Competition which ended on May 31, she will receive US$5,000.

Separately, Publishers Weekly's Comics Week interviewed Eijiro Shimada, the deputy editor-in-chief of Morning 2 magazine, at Comic-Con International. He talked about his editing work, the manga competition, the increase of overseas manga-inspired works, and the reception of these works in Japan and elsewhere.
