4 Japanese Guests Cancel Animazement Trip due to Swine Flu Concerns

5 other Japanese guests still slated to attend North Carolina con next week

The Animazement convention has announced on Thursday that four of its Japanese guests — voice actresses Noriko Hidaka and Keiko Han, and anime staffers Kōichi Tsunoda and Yasuo Yamaguchi — have cancelled their plans to attend the May 22-24 event in North Carolina. The guests cited the possible 10-day quarantine that they might face when they return home, due to concerns over the swine flu or influenza A(H1N1) virus. Animazement had announced on May 1 that another guest, voice actor Tomokazu Seki, had cancelled his appearance, but the convention had not specified a reason for Seki's cancellation.

Five other Japanese guests — director Jun Shishido, Madhouse studio founder Masao Maruyama, voice actor Ryuusei Nakao, and musicians Yusuke Igarashi and Maya Yamao — are still slated to attend the event.

The World Health Organization (WHO) reiterated on Friday that it "is not recommending travel restrictions related to the outbreak of the influenza A(H1N1) virus." The LM.C visual-kei rock duo had cancelled its planned A-Kon performance in Texas this month due to travel restrictions that its Pony Canyon label had imposed.
