New Gakumon: School of Monsters Web Anime Debuts

posted on by Karen Ressler
Shushu and Juzu go to the beach because it's a special episode

Shueisha's Jump Square began streaming the special episode of the web anime adaptation of Robinson Haruhara's Gakumon! ~Ōkami Shōjo wa Kujikenai~ (School of Monsters! Wolf Girl Won't Give Up) manga on Thursday. The short commemorates the manga's first compiled volume, which also shipped on Thursday.

Shushu is alone in her room when Juzu busts in saying that he has big news. She yells at him for breaking the door to her room, and he apologizes. She gives up and asks him about the news. He says the news is "the beach" and flashes back to a conversation he had with their teacher Kiisa Fraiger.

Fraiger says that this is a special anime made to commemorate Gakumon's first volume, so they should go to the beach. He clarifies that the human world has certain laws, and one of those laws is that special anime episodes must be swimming episodes.

Returning from the flashback, Juzu says Fraiger is waiting in the classroom, and they should go. Shushu asks Juzu why his eyes were dead in the flashback, and he says he gets nervous when the teacher is talking. She is surprised that's what he looks like when nervous, but changes the subject to say this explains the logo in the top left corner. Juzu is excited to go but Shushu says she can't go because it's December so it'll be cold, and besides she needs to keep the secret that she's a girl. Juzu remembers this secret is revealed to him on the second page of volume. (On sale now.) He asks about two of the other characters, and Shushu says they wont come either. Juzu asks why and the text at the bottom answers there's no budget for the cast, but Shushu introduces an image of them in swimsuits. Juzu whines that he wants to go, and finally Shushu agrees to go, but not to swim.

When they get there, Juzu says he's cold and wants to go back, but then says he's happy because this is the first time he's come to the beach with a friend. He thanks Shushu, and she replies that they should come in the summer.

At the end, Fraiser is alone in the classroom because no one met him there.

Kenshirō Morii (Horizon in the Middle of Nowhere web videos) directed the anime at Studio Moriken (Attack on Titan Chimi Chara Gekijō). Sōshi Iguchi designed the characters, and Shintarō Mori (Love Live! School idol project opening "Bokura wa Ima no Naka de") composed the music.

The original manga's story centers around Shushu, a girl who enrolls into a monster school as a "wolfman candidate." However, she keeps the fact that she is a girl a secret. Yumi Uchiyama is playing Shushu, and Hiro Shimono is voicing Juzu, the taciturn son of the school's principal. Other roles include Naomi Maruyama as the dorm head Timid and Shūichi Tatsunami as Shushu's teacher Kiisa Fraiger.

The first Flash anime adaptation debuted in April, followed by the second episode in May. Both episodes are currently streaming on the Niconico video service, YouTube, and other venues.

Haruhara launched the manga in the May issue of Shueisha's Jump Square magazine. Haruhara's Senyū. comedy manga also inspired an anime last year.
