The official website of the Code Geass: Akito the Exiled anime project began streaming a trailer for "Itoshiki mono-tachi e" (To Beloved Ones), the fifth and final episode of the series on Friday. The trailer previews the episode's story.
The episode will open in Japan in 36 theaters in Japan on February 6, after being delayed from its original fall 2015 release window.
The website also unveiled a new visual for the episode. The tagline reads, "To live in this world, I'll keep on fighting."
Animate will begin offering tickets with limited-edition acrylic keychains in December 24. A pop-up shop will open at Tokyo's Shinjuku Marui Annex building from February 5 to February 22. The anime is holding a collaboration with dishes, drinks, and limited goods at the new Kobe Anime Street district from February 4 to March 28.
The Code Geass: Akito the Exiled series is a spinoff of the original Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion television anime series. Set in between the two seasons of the original series during the Britannian invasion of Europe, Akito the Exiled centers around Akito Hyuga, a member of the "W-0" unit, a suicide outfit of exiled Japanese (Elevens) sent to the battlefield to perform dangerous missions against Britannia, with only a 5% survival rate.
The series was slated for four episodes, but Sunrise producer Yoshitaka Kawaguchi announced at the third episode's premiere in May that the anime will be expanded to five episodes. The fourth episode, "Nikushimi no Kioku Kara" (From the Memories of Hatred), was rewritten and redubbed to incorporate the fifth episode.
The fourth episode premiered in Japan on July 10, and the episode's DVD and Blu-ray version was released on October 28. The fourth-episode's Blu-ray release topped the Oricon animation and overall Blu-ray charts in its first week.
The third episode of Code Geass: Akito the Exiled premiered in theaters in Japan on May 2 after being delayed from last spring. The second episode premiered in September 2013, following the first episode's debut in August 2012. Funimation licensed the anime in 2013 for release in North America.
The original television anime Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion premiered in Japan in 2006, while Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 premiered in 2008. The Adult Swim network aired both series in North America in 2008. Bandai Entertainment released both seasons on home video in North America before it stopped offering new DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and manga releases in 2012. Funimation announced its license of the series in 2013.
