New employee Masayuki Nagatake takes Tsukagoshi's previous roles as president, COO

Tsuburaya Productions promoted former president and COO Takayuki Tsukagoshi to the position of chairman and CEO on Monday. The company's new employee Masayuki Nagatake will take up Tsukagoshi's previous position. Both men are also representative directors for the company.

Nagatake previously worked for Nomura Asset Management, Goldman Sachs, and Fast Retailing. He joined toy company Takara Tomy as an executive in 2009 and became president and COO of Takara Tomy International in 2016.

Tsukagoshi worked as general manager of Walt Disney Studios Japan before joining Tsuburaya Productions as president in 2017.

The 1966 science-fiction series Ultra Q and Ultraman were created by Tsuburaya Productions founder Eiji Tsuburaya, a special-effects director on the first Godzilla film and other classics. The Ultra Series has since spawned numerous spinoffs and sequels. The anime adaptation of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi's Ultraman manga premiered on Netflix on Monday.

The Hollywood Reporter reported in December that Tsuburaya Productions tapped United States production company Starlight Runner Entertainment to reboot its Ultraman franchise outside of Japan. The reboot will include a new Ultraman mythology and a possible live-action streaming TV series.
