T.M. Revolution Teases Gundam Seed Film Project's Status

Takanori Nishikawa: Staff told him on Saturday that film is "moving along"

Singer T.M. Revolution (Takanori Nishikawa) performed on the first day of "Gundam 40th Fes. 'Live-Beyond'," the concerts celebrating the 40th anniversary of the first Gundam anime, on Saturday. At the end of his set, he reported that he asked the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed anime's staff about the announced Gundam Seed film project, and relayed that it is "moving along."

Nishikawa first sang his "Zips" and "ignited" theme songs from the various Mobile Suit Gundam Seed projects, followed by a cover of Daisuke Inoue's "Ai Senshi" (Soldiers of Sorrow) theme song from the second film in the first Mobile Suit Gundam film trilogy. Nishikawa then invited musician Hiroyuki Sawano onstage to perform "Beginning" (third Mobile Suit Gundam film's ending theme) and "Vigilante" (Mobile Suit Gundam NT insert song) together.

Before his final song of the day, Nishikawa noted that it has been 15 years since the second Gundam Seed television series, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, aired. He acknowledged that he is still talking all about the announced Gundam Seed film project, long after many had given up hope of its release. He told the audience that he asked Sunrise and Bandai Namco Entertainment that day, "What is happening with Gundam Seed?" According to Nishikawa, the staff responded, "It's moving along." Nishikawa then urged fans to pray for the completion of the film project as he sang the "Invoke" opening theme to the first Gundam Seed series.

Chiaki Morosawa, the head scriptwriter for the two Gundam Seed series, passed away at the age of 56 in 2016. She had been collaborating with her husband Mitsuo Fukuda, who directed both Gundam Seed television series, on the planned Gundam Seed film project. Morosawa had explained in 2008 that the plot for the project was completed, but that she had been ill since the end of the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny sequel in 2005.

The first Mobile Suit Gundam Seed television anime aired from 2002 to 2003, followed by Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny from 2004 to 2005. The three-part Mobile Suit Gundam Seed C.E.73: Stargazer anime project followed in 2006. Sony Music Anime Festival '06 announced the planned film project in May 2006.
