Live-Action Meets the World Film Reveals 'Meat is Mine' In-Story Anime Segment

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Film featuring in-story anime segment opens in Japan on October 24

The live-action film adaptation of Hitomi Kanehara's Meets the World novel revealed on Tuesday that the film's in-story anthropomorphized meat otaku media franchise "Meat is Mine" will have an anime segment within the film. The film's official website unveiled a separate website for the "Meat is Mine" in-story franchise on Tuesday, made to look like an official website for the franchise. The website is streaming an entire "episode 35" of the franchise's in-story "anime adaptation."

Within the film and original novel's story, "Meat is Mine" is the franchise that protagonist Yukari Mitsuhashi is obsessed with. Saya Fukase (Iya na Kao Sare Nagara Opantsu Misete Moraitai, Tenka Tōitsu Koi no Ran: Shutsujin! Saika 4-nin Shū) directed the anime segment.

The anime segment stars Atsushi Tamaru as Fillet, Tomohisa Hashizume as Turn, Yōhei Azakami as Haramicchi, Kaito Takeda as Kalbin, Katsuyuki Miura as Kainomin, Ayumu Murase as Tomosan, Shōgo Sakata as Urute, Reona Irie as Shibiren, Kengo Kawanishi as Rebayan, and Tsuruta Ryōhei as Minosan.

The film will open in Japan on October 24. Daigo Matsui (live-action Sweet Poolside, Daily Lives of High School Boys, Afro Tanaka films) is directing the film, and rock band CreepHyp is providing the film's music.

The novel's story centers on 27-year-old office worker and fujoshi Yukari Mitsuhashi, who is obsessed in particular with the "Meat is Mine" franchise, which portrays types of meat anthropomorphized as handsome boys. Many of Yukari's friends within the fandom continue to get married and have kids and "graduate" from fujoshi fandom, while she doesn't see a life for herself beyond her current one focused on her job and hobbies. Yukari starts perceiving herself as being "left behind" in life, and in desperation, attempts to go to a mixer, with disastrous results. Feeling an all-time low of self-worth, she gets drunk in kabukicho, and there meets a hostess named Rai, who is herself dealing with her own problems. Somehow drawn to Rai, the two begin living together. and they begin changing each other's world, despite all of their own anxieties and lingering troubles.

Kanehara published the novel in 2022.
