Rainy Cocoa Anime Gets 2nd Season, Crowdfunding Campaign for New Cast

2nd season to premiere in October with live-action segment

The official Twitter account Rainy Cocoa television anime series announced on Saturday that the show's production committee has green-lit a second season, titled Ameiro Cocoa Rainy color e Yōkoso! (Rain-colored Cocoa: Welcome to Rainy. color!). The committee launched a crowdfunding campaign on the Green Funding website on Sunday in order to add more characters and cast members. The committee also plans to create a live-action segment to air with the anime that will feature talks with the new and veteran voice actors.

The campaign is aiming to raise 2 million yen (about US$16,275).

In the second season, the staff hopes to use new talent for new characters. The staff noted that it hopes to use the money to help nurture the new talent alongside the first season's veteran voice actors. The new characters and cast include:

The second season will premiere on Tokyo MX and Sun TV on October 4 and air from 10:15-10:25 p.m. on Sundays.

As of press time, the campaign has raised 80,000 yen (US$650) with 59 days left in the campaign.

Pledges for the campaign range from 1,000 yen (US$8) to 200,000 (US$1,627). Rewards include: a thank you video message, first season drama CDs, S-section or SS-section tickets for the "Ameiro Cocoa Rainy color e Yōkoso! Cocoa Party 2015" event being held on September 20, getting an instant picture taken with the performers at the event, an after-recording script set, casting as an extra in the live-action portion of the second season with your name. in the credits, choosing the name of a new character, or recording a line for the new series.

The first season starred Hiro Shimono as Aoi Tokura, Hikaru Midorikawa as Keiichi Iwaase, Daisuke Hirakawa as Shion Koga, Ryō Horikawa as Hiroshi Amami, and Mamoru Miyano as Ryota Sakuragi.

Tomomi Mochizuki (House of Five Leaves, Princess Nine) directed the anime shorts with character designs by Atsuko Takahashi (Magical Moe) and music by Kaoru Kondou (The Prince of Tennis: The National Tournament ending theme song composition). Funimation streamed the anime as it aired.

The first season was based on the Japanese/English digital manga of the same name. The creators describe Rainy Cocoa as one of the world's first digital manga which allows readers to toggle between Japanese and English text and audio.

The story of the manga revolves around Aoi Tokura, a college freshman who ends up working part-time at the café "Rainy. Color." There, the barista, owner, and other customers come together and make the café lively.

The English cast for the manga includes Joel McDonald, Ian Sinclair, Todd Haberkorn, Christopher R. Sabat, and Vic Mignogna.

The manga is available as apps in Google's Android store and Apple's iTunes Store. The manga and anime's staff have noted that the apps have been downloaded in more than 50 countries worldwide.
