I would like if it was organized differently too. Some of the entries are quite detailed so it would be better to quickly know if something is pornographic or not. Though making special sections would probably just cause more criticism as there would be debates on what should and shouldn't be considered adult. The print edition is suppose to have an erotica heading in the index I guess to help but, the eBook doesn't have an index at the end.

Actually, the erotica entries should have one or more of the language, nudity, or violence icons at the end of them. E.g., here at Abnormal Physiology Seminar.

The opposite of your problem, I used the encyclopedia recently to clear up a confusion someone had over a title, but it took me a while to find the entry of the hentai title they were thinking of.

I'm also on AnimeNation, and we've got a thread in the Hentai forum exactly for the purpose of identifying such.

I almost missed it entirely until I looked at the end of the description. Maybe it would be more obvious if it was on the title line, instead of the end of the paragraph.

Hmm. I'll pass that on.

You don't have to worry about content updates to the Kindle edition messing up the index - there isn't one. If you paid that Indian guy for indexing it he ripped you off..

The 2nd edition on Kindle did have an index but there was a glaring problem with it - the pagination was completely broken past a certain point since a whole swathe of the book was on one "page".

PS: None of the corrections I emailed in January 2013 have been corrected.

I'm sorry about that. Anime smallmouth + sweatdrop I can only recommend that you resend them with that comment included. (It's occasionally taken me more than one try to get something fixed—the Bomberman entry and a tangled mess of hentai shows spring to mind.)

Great episode!

Also, thanks to those two for laying the groundwork for the ANN Encyclopedia.

I think the reason people are confused by paper encyclopedias now is that Wikipedia has managed to promote a sort of magical thinking about facts, that they will naturally rise to the top out of the aether of the Internet for any and every imaginable subject. Sort of a "Free Marketplace of Facts", I guess.

Of course, that's not actually true -- I mean, let's say you want detailed info on a 1980s hentai, in English, that only ever received a Japanese Betamax release because it was boring and bad. Someone has to find a copy in Japan. The credits on the box may or may not be helpful since everyone was using fake names. Maybe as a jaded anime viewer you can make a good guess on the real voice actresses through hearing them say "No! Please stop!" enough times. Nobody wants to fess up to the key art. Maybe you can coax these facts out eventually, but I doubt it would be a natural process whatsoever. If it wasn't for a few weirdos stubbornly sticking to it, those facts would remain permanently buried in the bottom of a middle-aged salaryman's closet.

Anyhow, thanks for a great episode, and for all the hard work of everyone involved. Smile
