Hate to say it, but I was actually kind of interested the guys talking about their taxes (I cringed when Zac said he has a "box of receipts" that is apparently only dealt with annually), but yeah, personal finances are probably not something you want to be broadcasting to a mass audience.

Ya do not get me started on mine which I really need to start dealing with a lot more...

I give props to those itemizing their taxes. I would find it hard to keep all of the receipts I have throughout the year either without losing them or just feeling like throwing them away. But depending on what you do for a living it can definitely get you much more money back.

when you run a business and your gross is what is reported...YAY Kinda necessary to itemize otherwise you would lose all of your profit to the government....

I think you guys were a little too harsh on the Mediablasters dub for Rurouni Kenshin. I thought it was pretty okay and the only times I clearly remember it breaking the immersion for me, was when they went to the "beef stew" restaurant and the waitress has this glaring Texas accent. I just.. don't understand why they thought that was a good idea. I've not watched Rurouni Kenshin's original language and subtitle track, so I can't really compare.
I'm actually in the middle of re-watching Kenshin right now on DVD and I got the new OVA as well. I guess I'm not looking forward to watching the new OVA. haha.

Anyways, great podcast dudes. Will be listening for the next one.

Lord, I remember helping my wife with her taxes when she was running a small boutique ... while not identical, I'm confident that people who earn a lot of their income as independent contractors working on a project basis have much bigger headaches come tax time than most ordinary working stiffs.

Actually, we don't have a bigger headache at tax time, per se, because after a certain point, you have to adopt processes of continually accounting for your business revenues and expenses, which means setting up separate bank accounts and credit cards for your LLC or S-corp, keeping their own books (probably with QuickBooks or Account Edge), and paying monthly estimated taxes to the feds and possibly your state. So, since you're doing it all the time anyways, there's not that big a crunch at tax time (this is why I cringed at the thought of Zac having to take on a year's worth of business expense receipts all at once). Of course, after a while, you're big enough to hire an accountant, and then it's her problem.

For the record, I do organize month by month by expenditure type, so it's not like the box is unorganized. I just have to start adding, really. Once I get down to business I can be generally done with my taxes in about 2-3 hours.

While the topic apparently wasn't Justin & Zac's cup of tea, a dive into the realm of anime-influenced Western works could be really interesting (a job for the Mike Toole Show maybe, if he's interested?). Sometimes these things come from a place of great cynicism – Wolverine with speed lines doesn't do anything for anybody – but sometimes using anime as a jumping-off point leads to good things. In addition to the obvious Avatar: The Last Airbender, and co-productions like Mighty Orbots, a case could be made for Winx Club, Italy's version of the magical girl genre, and Exo Squad, a rare early-90's attempt to do a complex space opera for US television.

That is impressive that you can get it done in 2 - 3 hours actually

On the "Dropping Anime" topic. I usually try to give an anime three episodes and if the series isn't keeping my interest I usually stop watching it. But I usually try to wait until an anime is done before I watch it. That way I can watch the series in bulk, which is how I like it.

And yes, know it all fans doing or asking questions during a panel can be quite annoying even to me as a viewer of the panel in question.

Can't we all just get along and like the anime we like? Moe-dudes can watch moe shows, fujoshi can watch fujoshows, gorehounds can watch gory shows and we'll all be one big happy anime family.

doesn't that sound nice?

at any rate, if this does become a series i'll probably check it out, I'm a sucker for animation-porn, and it looks entertaining enough.

The whole Fujoshi bashing thing is frankly stupid and those that engage in it should be ashamed but that's probably not going to happen anytime soon. As far as structural inequalities it happens but Racism is'nt strictily about a sturctural inequality only becuese minorites can easily be prejduce or racist against each other but I digress.

As far as Fujoshi and Moe Otaku unite concept it'd be great but there's I think some differing meanings of what is meant by Moe when dealing with Moe Otaku or Fujoshi so it's a diffrnce of terms in those two groups.

So there could be some kind of unity but I think when a Fujoshi uses the term "moe" it's vaugly diffrent from when a Moe Otaku uses it's defenition of Moe. Of course it's not even agreed on what Moe means in ostensively stright male Moe Otakudom these days either.

That won't happen. In order to be an Otaku, one MUST have a violent and misogynistic, almost worrying hatred of real-life women. Just stroll on over to /a/ and you'll see plenty of proof.

Otaku and Fujoshi will never unite. One wishes to see the other DEAD.

Not that I wanted to wish a weight problem onto Justin, but when I first read that he was losing weight a comical scenario popped into my head. One of him running out of space for his anime. Leaving him the choice of getting rid of DVDs or losing weight.

Saying a diet doesn't work is like saying a hammer doesn't work. A diet is just what you are eating. Animals have diets, It's not that they are trying to lose weight. Like using any tool well, it requires some skill. Like any skill you may have to work to get any good at it(let the personal learning curve be implied). Congratulation to Justin for getting good at it. Welcome to the nerd-stud club.

BWAAHAHAHAHAHA

I wish Justin hadn't opted to refer to Streets of Fire as 'terrible'. It's far from that, it's just a little odd...maybe a lot odd. I think it did exactly what it set out to...except do well at the box office. Failing that it did manage to be a movie that some people really like...unironically.

No, in order to be an otaku, you have to be really, really into anime. That's it. Even the precise manifestation of that interest is debatable. A person's social views have nothing to do with being an otaku.

Being hateful and misogynistic is no more intrinsic to being an otaku than it is to being a gamer. Or a sports fan, for that matter.
