One of these two qualifications is likely to obtain in actual fact, the other is (almost) a violation of natural law.

I'm only kidding... I hope.

That's a good question...That article did mention ANN.com in it and maybe there thinking they need to be careful and decided they need/want a lawyer just incase...I wouldn't blame them "IF" that's the case but maybe it isn't...hopefully one of the workers/creators/moderators/staff/whatever you want to call yourself because I'm not quite sure of what I should call you and can you tell me what I should call you, will tell us.
For a side note the names I was making a joke of but the question still remains...What do you prefer to be called staff, mod, creators, workers, etc.?

Well, if you read the blurb about what they are looking for it's not a lawyer, at least in the sense of retaining legal counsel. It's more for someone willing to research IP law and who would be willing to contribute articles and the like to ANN. Ironically, most of the research in firms, at least decently sized firms, is actually done by law clerks and interns. That's one of the many things I'm tasked with doing at the firm where I work. But since I'm neither a lawyer, nor a law student, I apparently can't offer my services.

And for a statement I normally tell everyone and most people hate it...Lawyers, attorneys, legal consultants(not sure if I spelled that right),clerks, interns, marriage consulars, all the same in my eyes.
(for people who don't get it I was just joking)
And for idiots like myself who don't get much about law stuff....what is IP law? Is it Internet Protocal law? Or am I wrong in that thought?
EDIT: Don't answer that question I just read that article for a second time and know what IP is. Thanks if you were planning to answer the question though.

Actually, I meant more the fact that the article really wasn't able to report at all on the legality of the issue at hand- instead what happened was (predictably) a lot of arguing in the forum discussion thread and various members looking up and quoting laws and such. If ANN had a lawyer to consult, they could then do some research on the topic and that information could be included in the article, thus stemming some of that.
Also, that article was quite obviously biased. Not ANN's fault, they had to work with what they had, but if it had been possible to make mention of the relevent laws and such there in the article, it might have helped a bit.
And this isn't to mention all the various issues and rumors that come up constantly in the anime fandom about one series or another. It really makes sense to have an advisor on those legal matters just from the news reporting and editorial point of view.

Please try not to start rumors. I'm sure you think this is absolutely hilarious, but online, things have an annoying tendency to mutate, and then suddenly, two days later, people in entirely unrelated places are now taking what you said and passing it as the truth, and then *we* have to clean up the mess.

LOL
(for the record, ANN never said it was a legit import).
many people wrote: | Why does ANN want legal representation or a lawyer? |
ANN doesn't want legal representation. We have a lawyer, a copyright specialist in fact, for that express cause. But his time is expensive. He has offered, free of charge, to write content for ANN, but I prefer to get a fan of the site to do it, someone who is more familiar with the anime market and understands the issues involved from a fan's point of view as well as from the the court's point of view.
We're looking for someone to write articles, or help us write articles, about various legal copyright / trademark issues. I'm not going to tell you what issues - we will not be focusing on any specific cases - but the types of issues should be fairly obvious.
One thing I will say though, is don't look only at the last week's news, this plan has been in mind for much more than a week. I was about to post the position when the FUNimation / Akadot thing came up, and it caused be to delay the post for fear that people would link the two together. I ended up posting it anyways because it really doesn't matter what people think in regards to that...

I'd say that posting it so near to the Funi/Akadot thing rather gave a very good illustration of exactly why someone familiar with the legal system is necessary...
